Rome is full of mysteries, but seeing the exact location where it was born is something special. Velabrum, located in the shadow of the famous Bocca della Verità, is a combination of beauty, history, and myth.

Follow your expert local guide to learn about local traditions as well as some sayings that are still used today; formulae for good luck that the brave can conjure to tempt fate. You can also step into ancient churches, arches, and temples and listen to their treasured stories and timeless secrets.

Our tour begins at the legendary mask, which was once a wellhead, in Piazza Bocca della Verità. Discover why it continues to be feared even now, and then proceed to see the great four-sided arch known as the Arch of Janus. Then visit the 1,000-year-old church of San Giorgio in Velabro, which is adjacent to the richly decorated Arch of the Argentari.

Walk past the church on Via di San Giovanni Decollato until you reach Piazza della Consolazione, where the Tarpeian Rock stands. Before arriving at the Church of San Nicola in Carcere, which is housed within the remains of three different Roman temples, proceed to the holy area of S.Omobono (where you will learn about a specific vulgar saying!).

The tour concludes here, and you’ll find yourself back at the starting point, the circle in Piazza Bocca della Verità, where you can see the Foro Olitorio and the Foro Boario, both of which have well-preserved temples.
